Context
RFI România is the Romanian-language service of Radio France Internationale: a radio station and a news website. We built its Android app, the twin of the iPhone one, with the live broadcast and the news from the website.
People use the app in two ways: they listen to the live broadcast, which keeps playing with the app in the background, or they read the news, by category.
The benchmark: the iPhone app
The Android app works like the iPhone one: anyone using both has only one app to learn. That means:
- the live broadcast starts with one tap, and the player is always within reach;
- the news comes in automatically from the website, arranged by category;
- the featured articles are chosen by the newsroom;
- long lists load gradually as you scroll.
What we built
The Android app. We started with the screens: we proposed them, discussed them with the newsroom and adjusted them. The player kept the version without a logo, with only the playback controls and the name of the programme.
The news comes from the website, by category, with the newsroom’s featured articles on top. Lists load as you scroll, just as on the iPhone.
